About James Hanford

BACKGROUND

Originally from Arizona, I served 20 years in the USAF in roles ranging from pilot to course instructor to leading a Force Structure Analysis team at the Pentagon. Retired from the Air Force, I have now dedicated myself to serve my community. I am blessed to have married well above my station and now been married to Stacy for over 25 years.  We are both from Arizona and that is where our family is, but we decided to settle down in Derby. We have 4 children, one attending Wichita State, one attending University of Missouri, Kansas City, one attending Butler Community College and one sophomore at Derby High School.

VISION FOR EDUCATION

Derby is full of amazing people who want what is best for the community, even if we often struggle how best to get there. I want to see a thriving educational environment where every student has access to the highest quality resources and support. My goal is to foster a culture of excellence in Derby schools via collaboration across the entire community. This is just my view, but in the end I don't matter more than anyone else. Either everybody matters or nobody does.
